Turducken - All Fowled Up
If you have ever prepared a Turducken, you know exactly how much work and care goes into it. This feast called Turducken has been gaining more and more popularity lately. It seems though that most people would rather purchase a pre-prepared and packaged Turducken. Well that’s just no good.
So what exactly is a Turducken?
A Turducken is a de-boned Turkey, stuffed with a de-boned Duck, stuffed with a de-boned Chicken. The name is derived from a combination of the names of these three fowls. Often times the gaps between the birds are filled with a bread and or sausage stuffing. The Turducken is then tied and roasted for several hours.
The origins of Turducken is said to be in the Southern United States. However the method of stuffing birds within birds goes back to 19th century France.

Turducken has become a way to one-up the plain old roasted turkey during Thanksgiving dinner. John Madden used to eat Turducken while doing his Thanksgiving football game broadcasts.
One of the most interesting things about the Turducken is that it isn’t just the Turducken any more. There are several variations of birds to be included in the mix. Even a 19th century French recipe calling for 17 birds stuffed in one another. This was called the Bustergophechiduckneaealcockidgeoverwingailusharkolanbler. This rendition is currently illegal to create because several birds are protected species today.
